How I run a freelance project, from first call to launch
· Process, Freelance
Hiring a freelancer can feel like a leap of faith. Will they disappear? Will the budget explode? Will the result look anything like what you imagined? I have built my process to answer all three questions before they become worries.
Step 1 — The discovery call (free)
A 30-minute conversation about your goals, your users and your constraints. I ask a lot of questions, and I will tell you honestly if I am not the right fit.
Within two working days you receive a written proposal: scope, timeline, milestones and a fixed price.
Step 2 — Kick-off
Once we agree, we set up a shared space for files, feedback and progress. You will always know:
- what I am working on this week
- what I need from you
- what is coming next
Step 3 — Design you can click
Before writing production code, I design the key screens and turn them into clickable prototypes. You can test them on your own phone, share them with your team and change direction cheaply. Changing a design costs hours; changing finished code costs days.
Step 4 — Build in the open
Development happens in weekly milestones. Every milestone ends with a live preview link — a real, working version of your product you can explore. No waiting months for a big reveal.
Step 5 — Launch
I handle the technical side of going live:
- Hosting and domain setup
- Analytics and basic SEO
- Performance and accessibility checks
- A short handover video and documentation
Step 6 — After launch
Every project includes a support period to fix anything unexpected. After that, many clients move to a small monthly retainer for new features and maintenance.
The golden rule
You own everything. Source code, design files, accounts and assets are yours once the project is paid. No lock-in, ever.
