Zealdrop
An offline drag-to-convert toolkit for Mac and Windows. Drag a file, tap a key, and a radial wheel appears at your pointer — drop it on a petal to convert, compress, redact or trim, all on your device.
Role: Product design, desktop engineering. Stack: Tauri, Rust, TypeScript, FFmpeg (LGPL), macOS, Windows.
The challenge
Converting a file usually means uploading it to a random website or opening a heavy app for one small job. It breaks your flow, and for contracts, IDs or client files it’s a real privacy risk.
The solution
A gesture-first desktop app that lives where you already work: while dragging any file, tap a modifier key and a radial wheel opens under the pointer — one key for conversions, one for tools, one for file actions, all remappable. Everything runs locally, with no network code at all, enforced in code and checked in CI, plus an “Offline Proof” screen. Originals are never touched. A main window adds a batch queue, history with undo, chained recipes, watch folders, OCR (including Hindi), target-size video compression and a CLI.
Outcome
- 475 conversion routes, 46 tools and 8 file actions at v1.0
- Universal macOS build (Apple silicon + Intel) and Windows x64 + ARM64
- 100% offline — zero network code, and provably so
- Batch queue, undo, recipes, watch folders and a CLI
- OCR including Hindi, and target-size video compression
- One licence key for both Mac and Windows
Launching soon for macOS and Windows.
